My Grandmother’s Death

During the four years of high school, I have encountered and resolved different issues. The hardest situation I have dealt with would have to be to keep a strong composure when one of my loved ones died. It was in the tenth grade when I experienced this first hand with the death of my grandmother, Florencia. Over the next few days her death had a strong impact on me.
I remember the night when I received the tragic news. I heard a big fuss coming from my mother’s room. When I went in there to check what had happened, I saw my mother crying. I was confused of why she would be in tears, until I saw that the phone was next to her. My sister had to explain why my mother was crying to me because I could not hear her voice through her muffled voice. When my sister told me my grandmother was dead I was in shock. It took me a couple of minutes to respond because I felt empty hearing those words "she’s dead." I didn’t cry that night, because my whole state of mind could not accept that she was dead.
The next day at school, I began to think of the times I spent with my grandmother. I remembered the time when I first saw her in 2004. She was close to death back then, but she managed to smile through the pain. I remembered the pastries she made whenever my siblings and I went to her house. I remembered the talks she and I used to have, and how she would give me advice without asking. All these thoughts were only memories; the reality now was that she was gone. The though of her being gone was unbearable; I cried that day at school.
Throughout that whole day, it was impossible for me to get my grandmother’s essence out of my mind. I knew I had to move on, so I had a talk with my mother that night. We stated the conversation in an awkward manner, since we both knew the conversation was going to be about my grandmother’s death. As a mother, she gives the best advice, and to this day I remember the lesson she taught me. "Life does not rest, it moves on with or without a person and it is important you learn this now because someday I will leave you too." After she said this line, we both began to cry, thus releasing our grief. Then she hugged me assuring that although she was going to die, she is still going to be my mother.
From that day forward, I became aware of the fact that everyone has to die sooner or later, which is why death is a fate that should be accepted as living being. To this day, I still miss my grandmother. The only difference now is that I know that I will have to face that same fate as well.

Judged by my cover

It was a sunny weekend, perfect weather to visit distant relative. Lancaster, the town populated by suburbia. How it terrifies me! I loathe walking in its streets at night. So many buildings look alike? Where do I go? This house looks like my cousins, but is this it? Ah, but I have my younger cousin, Joel, to guide me. Well now off to the story. The event occurred during the day at a local mall in Lancaster. To this day, I cannot remember its name. Such a calm place, with a few inconsiderate civilians. How they judge you? Their eyes judge by color, not by intention. It was during this event that I realized how racist stereotypes still prevail.
Saturday, a day filled with sun and random behaviors. My mother decided to visit the relatives who longed to see our presence, and here we are, the sixth day of a week’s stay at my aunt’s house. Her name is Rebecca and she has an older daughter, a younger son, and a husband. This Saturday, my cousin Rebecca ,nicknamed Cuty, and my cousin Joel decided to introduce us to the local mall. How I loathe malls! Too much commercialism is bound to be wrong, however the food is always the exception. I love the variety of food offered in such a large enclosed space. That morning, my mother, my siblings, my cousins, and I got ready. I wore a typical jean, sweater, shirt combo. Everyone else was casual as well, excluding my cousin, who had a breezy flowery dress. We all boarded the car and off we went into a journey I shall never forget.
We arrived at the mall, and wow, it was huge! I did not know what to do. I was intimidated, yet astonished. Being the individual that I am, my mind went straight to the food options. There was only one problem, my cousin, Cuty, locked the keys in the car. This event soon crushed my dreams of eating a variety of food available. All the fragrant aromas were teasing me as we all walked inside the mall trying to find a security guard who could open the car door. Our failure to find one led to frustration. In an act of desperation, Cuty called her father to bring supplies to open the car. He came fast, with a coat hanger and a wooden stick, but unfortunately he had to leave in order to get to work on time.
There we were, stranded in the middle of a parking lot and our only chances of getting home were a stick, a coat hanger, bobbin pins from my sister, and one of my bracelets. My mother amazed us with her strength. To this day I am amazed on how easily she was able to bend that coat hanger into a usable hook. The hook was connected to the wooden stick through bent bobbin pins and the remains of my necklace. It was pretty stable. Now our plan was to get the keys by using the hook. We were lucky, since my cousin forgot to close the back window of the car. As we were fetching the keys out of the car I began to notice that the pedestrians were watching.
I began to feel weird. I did not know why we were receiving such glances. I began observing those who passed and wondered why they were looking at us as if we were doing something wrong. I walked closer to the front of the car, to observe these individuals, and saw two Caucasian women, an old one and a slightly younger one. I overheard one comment “It’s a shame they are doing this in a public place.” I was wondering why she would say that. I was 14, but I was trying to piece the puzzle of her words. She continued by lecturing the other one, until she saw that I was watching her. She stopped talking, and they both began to walk quickly into the mall. I was still so confused. What did she mean by that phrase?
It took me a couple of minutes to figure it out. By “they” she meant us and by “doing this in a public place” she meant we were trying to steal the car. I knew that was what she meant, since I was with my family. I was disgusted by her words, why did she call us “they”? Did she really think we were not capable of affording the car that belongs to my cousin? I had so many questions that needed to be answered. I felt anger, but I decided to keep it in, since she was but a foolish old woman. Before we got into the car, I shared the event with my sister, who reacted to the words violently. I had to calm her down, but as we drove off I realized I have a long journey ahead of me.

Thanksgiving

As humans, one is bound to have a feeling of disappointment at one point in their lifetime. The questions is, towards whom? Ah, even I, as an individual who easily forgives, have my limits. What is this limit? If one fails to fulfill a scheduled time. This is only due to one of my pet peeves - patience. As of now, I have 17 years of existence, and yet the phrase “patience is a virtue” does not seem to stick. That being said, my experience with disappointment dealt with impatience by waiting for the arrival of my parents and brother for last year’s Thanksgiving dinner.
Thanksgiving, the holiday to give thanks to be with the ones you love and enjoying each other company. Not to mention the fact that by the end of the day, people are tired from stuffing their faces with all the delicious food. The three days of Thanksgiving are truly the best of the year, with days worth of nonstop food. However, every family has their pre-Thanksgiving tradition. Some enjoy sports, some plot out food plans in a military-like manner. My family watches our family members play baseball, which end up in verbal arguments against the referee. Last year, my sister and I grew bored of the baseball games because it truly is the same thing each year. Our boredom led to the decision in staying home to cook the dinner.
The meal took at least 8 hours to cook. I was only an assistant to my sister, who already had decided what the courses would be days ahead. I was shocked by how much I had to do - slicing vegetables, washing dishes, setting up pans, and so on. By the end of the meal’s preparation, I was tired. I glared at the food in frustration that it took longer than I thought it should. I forgave it, a few minutes later. Hunger is my weakness. I took my portion of the piping hot meal, composed of turkey, stuffing, pies, and more. By the end of the meal, I was proud that I was able to take part in this wonderful creation.
Hours passed by. I managed to eat a second portion of the meal, and yet my parents and brother had not arrived. I starred at the clock for hours, wondering when they would come. They said they would come as soon as the game was over, which is usually at 5:00 p.m. My sister is less patient being in comparison to me, so she called my aunt on her cell phone. When my aunt passed the phone to my mother, she was frustrated and in a harsh tone she said, “Why aren’t you guys her yet?!?!?!” I was anxiously waiting for the response on the other side, next to my sister. I didn’t get to hear because my sister hung up the phone too quick. What I understood was that my parents and brother decided to go to an after game party in San Bernardino after the game. I was disappointed. Out of all individuals, I felt betrayed my own family. All those hours in the kitchen, all that work for nothing. It was a huge gaping hole into anger, frustration, and, above all, disappointment.
People gave up our hopes too easily. One would expect Thanksgiving the day when people stay in the houses and spent time with family. This assumption is truly incorrect, as individuals, who knew my mother, kept knocking at the door every hour or so. The person who gave us a huge glimpse of false hope was my uncle. He is living with us only temporarily, but as soon as he opened the door with his keys our eyes sparkled. I remember the door knob turning in slow motion, but when I ran to see who it was I was disappointed once more. This time disappointment came in the form of false hope. We prepared his plate, since he was the first individual to come. Oh but his meal did not stop there. We stuffed him until he could not be stuffed anymore. He truly enjoyed the meal, and we were happy that at least someone was able to appreciate our hard labor.
My mother and brother did not show up until the next day. Their excuse was because my father was not in the mood for driving. In fact, they had to hitch a ride with some relatives in order to get back that same day. We were appalled, but forgave them nonetheless, because like us, they too were victims. Now when my father showed up the next day, we did not serve him his plate, since he did not bother to come home the previous day. Why? His brother, along with his wife, decided to visit. I should have known this was coming. My disappointment turned into annoyance aimed towards relatives that I did not want to see.

The Front of My Apartment Complex

It’s a typical after school day. A beautiful sunny day accompanied by a cool breeze, which cools off the sun’s harsh rays. I just said good-byes to my friends at the school bus stop, and now I am on a stroll towards home. Ahead of me I see two rows, both a mixture of houses, apartments, and greenery in random locations. So many houses and apartments with fences! I feel like a trespasser. Now I do my usual right turn, and walk on the curved path that "looks" smaller. My, how do I deceive my mind into believing I’m getting home faster?
I have finally reached the end of this path. The challenge is crossing the street. As usual, there is a neighbor who drives through the curved street without paying attention to the person crossing the street. As the car passes through the one-way street, it leaves a faint petroleum stench behind. I let a car pass by and now a Pale Pink apartment confronts me. I cross the street and notice the worn rectangular building. Weather has been gentle enough to preserve it but the dimmed pink, and the peeling blue paint reveal the building’s true age. On the wooden frames, which are the one’s painted blue, stand the words Studio Manor. This logo always makes me wonder what this apartment used to be. Covering those words, a tremendous tree stands it place, proving shade in weather like this. On the left side of the tree, a dog stands its place on the balcony. I never met its owner, but the dog looks as though it terribly needs love and affection.
Now, I begin to walk on these long rectangular squares, which look more like steps fit for a giant. There are three of them, each gray and cracked with the years. I enjoy walking these pavement creations, as they are wide enough to take a new path home everyday. They are surrounded by greens – grass, plants, and trees. It is a sight that’s pleasing to the eyes. All of it is pleasing – all except for the huge patch of dirt underneath the dog’s balcony. That spot secluded from sunlight is barren, but it expresses the limits to life itself. As I walk towards the gate leading to the apartment’s inside, I take in all my surroundings with a quick glance. On my way upstairs, I can’t help but feel pity for the lonely dog outside.

Goals and Failure

Every person is different. In life we go about trying to find who we are and where we are going. However, only a few have an idea of what they want to do. What makes these people different from others? Ah, the answer is apparent - goals. Yes, there people have established goals and are not afraid of what lies in store for them; even if it means failure. Is failure bad? No. It helps shape the individual, who, in return, learns from their faults. Knowing that, I admit that I am an individual who has established goals, even if failure is in store.
What would make an person unafraid of failure? In order to achieve and succeed a person must learn how to fall down and stand up. It’s a simple life lesson, but why? As humans, we must accept that one’s work always needs improvement. It is not to achieve perfection, but to speak as who one is. One’s writing piece must be an essence and a reflection of one’s self. This is why failure is looked down upon. In some cases perfection is the only option. However, one must how to fail an accept criticism to go anywhere, as it is one of the strongest methods of learning.
It is in our nature to set goals for ourselves. This is undeniably an important lesson since the day a baby walks out of the womb. Yes, it is a fact. As infants we have established goals, which include walking, talking, eating, and breathing. All simple, but goals nonetheless. As we mature, a greater set of goals take place for all individuals. Everyone has paths set for them through goals and ambitions, however, only those that decide to aim farther succeed further. For years, many ambitious individuals have the chance of becoming successful, but only those with a strong set of goals have accomplished.
What is the connection amongst goals and failure? The connection is simple and apparent. As humans, we have a set of goals that we have to accomplish. However, failure is an option that lies ahead, in the form of criticism. In order to succeed, one must accept criticism in the form of an advice. Those who critique are usually more knowledgeable in one’s work, this is why they take the role as teachers and peers. What does this criticism do to one’s work? It helps shape it, and nourish it. Yes, one’s work grows. Knowledge expands. All of it is an amazing process that helps the individual succeed further in the future.
Overall, knowledge and success are achieve through goals and failure. I have accepted this into my being. It is the way I plan to live life, until I too become a knowledgeable peer. One who can expend the knowledge of the next generation as bearer of criticism, accomplishments, and advice.

If a tree falls will there be sound?

Ah, the dreaded question that caused a debate in the class - if a tree fall will there be sound. Many chose an introverted point of view, assuming that if they were not there then the tree made no sound. Other chose an extroverted concept, where the tree still makes noise without the presence of an individual. Which theory is true, and which one is false? The truth to this question lies in viewing the situation in another manner - an analytical one. That being the case, I agree with the individuals that stated a tree makes noise without one’s presence being there.
Opponents argue that if a tree falls in a distant area, where they are not able to hear it, then the tree produces no sound. This claim is flawed simply due to the fact that when an item falls it is bound to create sound. The outside factors still enforce elements that create what we call sound. There is air around us, and it vibrates rapidly. When that tree falls, it causes a disturbance in the air particles by releasing wavelengths. These wavelengths then spread out into the environment in the form of sound. This scenario clearly demonstrates that without the presence of an individual, sound is still capable of being produced.
Sound occurs around the world, without the presence of an individual being there. As of now, plane fly above, animals scurry in their habitat, and people are awake or asleep. All of these things have one thing in common: the production of sound. Without the presence of a human, sound is there. In fact, if humans decided to stop depending on noise devices, then we would have a serene environment. However, this is impossible. We have become too civilized into this world we created. Now, many of us believe that without us there is no sound. This is just a belief, and has been proven wrong. In life, everything alive, other than a human, makes a sound with the help of air. If the human civilization were to disappear tomorrow, life would still continue to produce sound.
Sound is in the ear of the beholder. How is this possible? My, such wonders our universe holds! It all lies in the perspective of the person! Yes, this is a simple scenario, but many people tend to always take opposing paths. I take the logical and more humble approach, where sound still exists without my presence. Does sound exist without the presence of our dead ancestors. Yes! Time passes, and eventually life will move on without our existence. This just clears the point that even without humanity itself, that tree is still going to make a sound when it falls.
Overall, sound is capable of being produced if a tree falls in the middle of nowhere. Our environment is the reason why sound is produced without the presence of any human beings. How? Through the air. The air is the provider of life, a provider that can get disturbed with the simplest falling objects.

How to brush your teeth

The sound of my fathers knock is loud and clear as he says “Wake up its 7 o’clock!” I know it’s truly 6:30 as always, so I sleep in for a couple of minutes. Time passes by and I realize that I overslept since it is now 7:02. I drag self out of bed and walk towards the bathroom. The door is locked. I look at the door irritated by the fact that its closed every time I want to use it. I knock and my sister opens the door, the light is blinding. She’s doing her hair as always. I step the bathroom wondering where did I leave my toothbrush. Sure enough, the container glances at me and I realize my brush is in it. I take my brush, the sword against plaque, and with it I begin the treacherous journey that occurs everyday in my mouth.
At this moment, the plaque has developed and multiplied in my sleep. The putrid scent its army leaves behind leaves the awful ‘morning breathe’ that wakes me up from slumber. I take the mighty sword and reach for the shield, also known as the toothpaste. Oh no! The shield reinforcement tube has ran out of troops. The battle is halted, as I walk to the closet by the bathroom. I open the closet and find packs of toothpaste. I grab the nearest one and run back to the bathroom. There I remove the packaging and open the tube of toothpaste. I place it near the sink, so I would have everything at hand. It is time; the plaque war is about to commence. I click the cap of toothpaste open, and squirt some on the brush. I turn the faucet on with only cold water. The water’s duty is to activate the shield, which becomes bubbly as the scent of mint evaporates. I open my mouth, where the plaque is waiting to sword and shield, hiding in the deep crevices between teeth.
The battle begins, as my hand steadily brushes the front, back, and inner part of my teeth. The plaques is outnumbered, they have no power over the shield the protects the rough sword. Its bristles wipe out the few remaining troops that the shield fails to drench. My hand then heads for my tongue, where many of them are living in homes now. Tiny plaque communities dwell, but this comes to an end. The sword is prepared to wipe out fresh enemies. It might proves to be true, as it wipes out the plaque for now. More shall come, but the battle is at its end. I rinse the top of my brush with the water and throw it back in its place. I place the toothpaste near the container. The battle is over, but the remains of it are still in my mouth. I cup some of the water in my hand and gargle until I’m sure my mouth is clean. I spit the remains into the sink. I close the faucet, turn off the lights, and leave the battlefield.

Favorite Music Video

My favorite music video is Super Junior's Sorry Sorry. It is so beautifully filmed and unexpected. I begins with an eye peering out a keyhole. An opened letter. A male, Kibum, with a blindfold. A female who touches her leg, shows her lip, and breaks a pearl necklace. It is strange, but then you see the captions of the video. Then the picture moves with the beat. It pulses until the audience can see it clearly. That is when the song begins. Sorry Sorry Sorry Sorry is the phrase repeated throughout the song. The males take turns. Each faces the camera and has a unique gesture. There are thirteen of them. All handsome with their suits. On occasions there is one with sunglasses that stands out. The dance of the song is above all interesting. It goes so well with the song. Did I mention the video is in black and white? Yes, all this in black in white, so it won't overwhelm the eyes of the viewer. The mosaic type of cutting, filming, and transitioning is outstanding. It's a flawless film. So much effort is put into this one music video. That is why I truly admire it.

Favorite Movie

My favorite movie is the Attack on the pinup boys. The movie is in Korean but I watched it with English subtitles. It had good effects and transitions. Its as though you are watching a comic book with people. The whimsical characters go to this prestigious high school. It was so huge. Everyone wore uniforms. There were three males that were well know Siwon  - the smart school president, Kangin - the judo team champion, and Heechul - the prettiest man on the dancing team. All were in competition for one thing, to get attacked by the man who threw bags of poo. Yes a strange concept, but interesting nonetheless. It turns out this man, with a gloves makes instants stars of those who he throws poo on. The first victim was a male student named Sungmin - the prettiest man at his school. The girls swooned over him, and gave him a number of gifts. One night, he was walking home and saw that no one was around. He heard footsteps, and thought it was one of his female admirers. He was wrong, as soon as he turned this man threw a black plastic bag of poo at him. Yes, it was strange. The next day he became an instant star. He became a model, feature in all the teen pop magazine. He began to MC for television shows. He was famous. The same thing happened to the man's next two victims. One was in a rock band, his name Yesung. He was such a powerful singer, and had tons of fans. Once he was attacked by this man, he got a recording contract, and made more money and fans. The last male attacked was one by the name of Hangeng, a wonderful athlete. His skill, basketball. Once he got pooed he got a labeling contract, endorsed companies, and made it on one of the top basketball teams in Korea. Now in this high school, these three males wanted to get pooed. They wanted fame, they wanted to become successful, since they all were seniors. In the end, none get attacked. Its interesting ot see that even the teachers bet to see who gets attacked. Who will get attacked? None other than Donghae - a top dancer. Who is the man who attacks the others? You will have to see the movie to find out. It truly is filmed beautifully and funny as well.

Sleep and its effects

If one doe snot receive enough sleep, one gets affected mentally, physically, and emotionally. I have been through sleep deprivation, and its not pretty. I felt tired, I felt like a zombie. I was awake, yet part of me was dead. I did not know how, but I could not sleep. I was the cause of my lack of sleep. I know that now.Sleep is a natural cycle that occurs, since birth but I could not grasp it that year. I felt like a failure. My heart began to hurt. The pain kept my head in pain. It was not until I realized what I have become, that I slept. I was not myself. I was two people, the strong one and the weak one. In the end the strong one won. It was a difficult battle, but I know I caused it. Sleep deprivation truly messes with your mind. You find yourself more tired than usual. It truly is living dead.

Cats and Dogs

Cats are and dogs are both creatures acceptable in the household. Both are unique creatures. Both have fur, and both can be bald. However, a cat meows and a dog barks. I consider dogs more powerful than cat. They are more loyal to a human as well. They are not as flexible s cat, so when they fall it hurts them. The cat dogs leave a funny scent when is uses the restroom, which smells worse than a dog's. Both can smell bad if not bathed frequently. It may be the food that affects them. It may be their eyes. They are both cute creatures, but dogs share more of a bond with humans. Cats can fend for themselves.

Formal and Informal

For formal occasion people dress more elegant and sophisticated. For informal occasions, it is common to wear jeans and a t-shirt. They both are ways of getting dressed. However, formal wear is valued over informal wear. I must admit to liking the formal way one dresses, because informally one does not notice the qualities of a person. it is nice to feel like a some sort of Britianian, walking to and fro with a suit. I admit that suits are nice. Dresses make me think of cold. Compliments are given, but I feel cold. Yes men are truly lucky with formal and informal wear, as both present warm garments for them.

Raw and cooked foods

Raw foods, I can eat, are vegetables. Meats, pastas, and such have to be cooked. Why? I love the warmth food presents when its cooked. It delicious. Its hard not to love it. It has been a strong element of cuisine since I was born. I am amazed at the fact that people can not eat both. It is hard not to. I cannot choose amongst raw and cooked. I must have both.

Spicy and sweet foods

Spicy food have more of a hit on the tongue. Sweet foods are full of sugar. It is hard to compare them except for the fact that they are food. Other than that sweet food tends to be desserts, spicy foods tend to be dishes. There are both good. It is hard not to love one or the other. Unless one has a delicate palette. Both are good option to eat. Both are delicious. It hard to not love one over the other.

Weather and mood

The weather is a helpful feature. It does change a human. I admit to feeling sleepy when it cloudy and raining outside. I have more energy when its sunny. I love the sunny weather, but when it gets too hot that's another story. Both have their likes and dislikes, I am amused on how my brother finds the rain pleasing. I am shocked that people like the hot weather. I love the average weather, one where its hot with a change of wind. It is rare for this to happen, this is why I love this weather. I do admit that weather is the changer of human emotions. It may be apparent or it may be internal, but it affects a person one way or another.

Public schooling and home schooling

Public schooling is a complex system. You have individuals who know things, and they teach them to you. Home schooling varies, one can learn online, or through their parents. One could even get their own personal teacher. All of it beneficial to the student. At home, there are far less distractions. At school there are a lot of distractions. The interactions at school are better than at home. At home, one will get frustrated of staying indoors. It is truly annoying. Homeschooling does offer intelligence, but interactions with other humans in the outside world will be complicated. It all depends on the individual. Overall, both have their pros and cons.

Understanding and Knowledge

In order to understand on must have knowledge. Both are different topics that are related by one thing, learning. Yes in order to learn, a student must adapt to these. It must be part of their every being. Without understanding one will only experience confusion. Without knowledge one won't know what they learned. It is apparent that these two are interrelated. It is impossible to live without them. It is easy to apply them. One must use them to succeed in the future.

Interesting person

He had hair, raven black with slightly noticeable blue and purple highlights. He has a soft face, close to a female but more androgynous. He had sharp features. He had an average man build. The way he dressed was above all, weird. He wore a red jacket, he had shoes, he had a shirt and he had pants. The pants were shiny. The shirt was black. The shoes were new. He has gloves. I did not know how to describe him thoroughly, his essence oozes of a certain frustration. Was he tired? Was he hurt? To this day, I will never know. Seeing hi made me realize that I have not seen everything. I was amazed. I was in shock. I was repulsed. I was confused. I did not have a reaction to as what that was. I saw him and suddenly knew nothing. I was paralyzed.

Effective Teacher

The most effective teacher I had was Charles Michael Cain. Yes, to his day his name prevails as a powerful being. He broke us down as students. Piled us with work. He taught us new life lessons. Above all, he cared. He cared dearly about us even if he won't admit it. Its strange how such a being is looked down upon. It was mainly his past or his appearance, but overall he's an outstanding individual. He taught many how to survive, but felt like a failure when a student failed. Yes, only a being such as himself could be able to do something like this. I admit he was courageous to have come this far, despite of what the had went through. He had deadlines, he had work, he had rules, but all helped us grow. Once I had him, I was not afraid of school. In fact, I began to understand the high school system that year. Yes, I did not know that system for two whole years, I just took classes. I am glad I had his class.

Learning a new language abroad

If I were to be dropped off into another country to learn the language, I would need to have someone that know at least can translate somethings. I know I cannot survive without help, so a person by my side is necessary. I admit that this is not a difficult thing, in fact, I am learning a language right now. What helps out learning a language, is finding phrase or sounds in the current language one knows and applying that to help pronounce. It is frustrating the first few days, but once on gets accustomed it only gets harder. The words and the way of speaking are now more complex. It is impossible to forget though. Why? If you mess up you are corrected and are helped accordingly. It is truly wonderful learning a new language. It never ceases. Knowledge is never ending. Food, customs, and traditions would help one understand and learn a new language.

Teenage fads

I believe the teenage fads now all started due to media exposure. People walk around with leggings, jeans, bracelets, shoes. All bought upon by the media. All of it, even the dances. Who else would invent new complicated dances. The web and television are strong sources as to why children dress and act today. It has its setbacks as well. For one thing, children now are easily exposed to adult content. Sure the child would learn these thins anyways, but this does not stop the fact that this is wrong. It is apparent that these are factors as to why this happens. Fads come and go but the impact of what causes them stays.

People and animals

There is a reason why people love animals, animals are cute. It is hard to not take care of such living creature. They eat, play, run, and most of all love. A bond is one of the strongest things that unites a human and an animal. I would have to say that above all, animals are adorable. Some are poisonous, some are cute, some are huge. All of them could bond with humans. Its just up to us not to show a sense of fear. Overall, animals an humans share a strong bond on this planet, which is why its hard to not spend time with them.

Decadent Dessert

If I could imagine the most decadent dessert, it would have to be the warm and filling. It would be composed of chocolate icing, a sweet moist cake, and an ice cream filling. I would start off with a moist angel food cake, yes its light but its functions are numerous. the filling would be a vanilla bean ice cream. Then it would be topped off with a smooth velvety icing. Yes. It sounds good, but did I mention the topping. The topping would be candied almonds, yes I an one who loves almonds. This dessert would be one to truly make me a fan of cake.

Without cellphones

Modern life without cellphones would be inefficient and productive. People spend mos of their times connected to these devices, without cellphones they will be able to get distracted less. Phones, television, and computer will still exist. All these devices at least have a useful purpose. A cellphone is just a portable telephone wit a keyboard in it. It is a distraction now more than ever. I find it as a toy. It is plastic and entertaining. I have one, but I am not an addict. I see people constantly checking for messages, for emails, always distracted in class. It is not necessary. I think life would be livable without them.

Visiting Seoul, South Korea

The main reason for visiting Seoul, South Korea would be for the food. Ever since I became a Super Junior fan, I noticed that the cuisine there looks enticing. I was amazed at all the food that were available. The most enticing would have to be the Korean B.B.Q. Its amazing one how a small grill is used on the table where one eats. The food looks delicious. My second reason would have to be to purchase things there. I know as a foreigner, dessert and treats on the local level are always the best. My final reason for visiting is the most apparent, I would buy a lot of albums of my favorite artist, as it would be at hand over there. In fact, I could get more glow sticks. Having items shipped from there is a burden. In fact, shipping costs more than the product. This is why I would visit Seoul, South Korea. A cold city in the winter, hot during the summer. It seems nice. Now traveling through South Korea wold be another story....

Tasks needed to attend an out of state college

As a senior, I have only applied to two out of state schools. It was a challenge at first. One must become strong in preparation for what to come. I did not know what to do at first, but now I do. I know I must get a permit, to be able to travel. I plan on working if they have school jobs. However, I know I must apply for a load of scholarships to help me financially. What's better than earning money for your knowledge? I know I have to take classes. However, since I am an outsider, I know I must get accustomed to the campus. Other than that, I have lacked in preparation. I know I am able to survive, but getting accustomed to the weather may take some time. I know some paces are colder and some hotter. I do not know how to keep track of which. An element of surprise is always good, just be prepared enough to take the challenges that lie ahead.

Best Friend's Birthday

I woke up realizing I was not where I slept the previous night. I looked around and everything around me looked foreign, All I could think was "where am I?" I had no say in this. I began to think the CIA had something to do with this. I went to the bathroom, yes it took a while to find  but I still managed to find it. I peered in through the door making sure no one was there. To my surprise, I saw a familiar face. It has soft skin, beautiful hair, shining eyes with a mystery behind them, and a smile like no other. I was in shock. I was paralyzed by his beauty and I could not hold back my awe. He began to wave his hand in my face to bring me back to earth from my state of shock. He laughed. I knew who he was. He was Yesung, such a beautiful voice was right in front of me. For some reason, he did not mind I was there. In fact, he seemed to know me. I asked him a question, and to my surprise I could speak Korean. I did not know how this happened, but I was proud. I had asked him how I got there. His answer was simple, by plane. I kept wondering why I do not remember such events. He told me everything. He said I was a little loopy, but I managed to fly on a plane to Korea for a business meeting. He said S.M. Entertainment had hired me to remodel the building, due to my high architectural skills. I looked at my hands and realized I was older. I did not know what happened, but I liked it. He also told me that I had asked him to do a favor. I was shocked. He told me I was planning a surprise party for two friends Alice and T-San, he said. I was pleased, because from here I knew where this was going. I knew I would surprise them someday, but I did not know how. I thought it would happen through concert tickets, but now in Korea I was connected with Super Junior and SHINee. Their favorite pop-idol groups. He said he was pleased with doing the favor, and had even got Super Junior and SHINee to take part in it. I was amazed! I could not control my happiness, and he just smiled at my reaction. He also told me I did not get much rest, which is the reason why I was in a state of shock. Once everything was prepared, an ready I knocked out. He laughed at how I fell asleep. He said I was standing in the elevator, and once I told him the plans were done I just collapsed. I found it funny myself. I was shocked when he told me I slept for two whole days. I now was able to recollect everything.  The party was today! They were supposed to fly to Korean in today. I told them, they were going to attend a concert here in Seoul, little do they know they are going to meet SHINee and Super Junior. I continued to talk to Yesung, who had helped me through this mission. I was grateful to meet a new friend like him, that helped me throw a special party for my best friends. Now all we had to do was wait for their arrival.

Living in a decade

If I could choose any decade to live in it would have to be the 80's. I want to be able to witness all the outrageous clothing. I want to hear the music of that era. I want to see how much has changed from then to now. It would be surprising to find new food, clothing, and above all the political figures. Yes, a political figures says a lot about that time era. It would be a pleasure to travel around the world an see what has changed. What is modern and what is not? Only those who travel back shall know. I must admit, it would be strange running into younger figures of one's past. I do not know what would happen is I ever ran into one of my parents. I would be amazed, but will this change the way I was born. Will I cease to exist? Yes, movies have led to the paranoia of time travel. It is amazing that such thing exist. If I could go back, I would be as careful as possible.

Appreciating parents

It is a topic debated more now than ever before - the appreciation of ones parents. It is important for an individual to gain respect and appreciation for their parents. They are the providers to the household. In fact, they sacrifice most of their time for the child. All hopes and dreams of their may have been haulted with the birth of a child. A child brings forth happiness, but it can be a burden throughout infancy. As the child develops, more knowledge is instilled. The child must realize how important the parent is, and not degrade them due to friends or what their peers comment. I find it insulting when a person feels embarrassed of their parents, if anything they are a greater disgrace than their parent. Sure sometime parents can hug and show affection to their child in public, but can one blame them. In their eyes, this child has grown so much before their eyes into adolescence and they are pleased an loving no matter what mistakes arise. In fact, parents will help you through those mistakes. I admire both my parents because they have sacrificed most of their life tend for me and my two siblings. They have been the providers of not only material need, but love and care. I loathe the fact that both my sibling can feel embarrassed at my parents at times. I find it rude to talk back simply because it is rude, there is no way around that. A parent sacrifices, love, care, and tends for the child so appreciation is a quality that every child should feel towards their parent.

A person new to the country

If I were to write an article about a person arriving into the country, I would go overboard. I would ask about their country's best dishes. I would ask about their family. I would ask about sports. I would ask about customs. I would ask about religion. I would ask just about everything. Why? As a journalist, one must have a variety to talk about. The article may turn out bland if not enough information was given through an interview. Sure one must write fast, but short notes can get the job done fast and efficient. Such a number of strategies just waiting to come into the open. However, overwhelming the interviewee is something to avoid. One must talk to them in a casual manner, as though they were a friend or a companion. Yes, so many topics covered, so many questions answered, and so many topics to write about. A plethora of knowledge is always good for a journalist.

Preserving the family history

One can ask a variety of questions to their elders, as they are more experience individuals. Yes, the topics can range from anything. You can simply ask about the places this person has been to, and you will get a load of stories. You can as about a time they have felt sad, happy, mad, every emotion in the book. It will lead to some conversation. You can talk about similar interests. One story equals a lot of family history. One's perspective may differ from another, but that story will prevail. The most important piece of family history would have to be a talk about an elders parents. By knowing this, an individual has a larger expansion of their family tree.

Choosing the right college

How does one choose a right college or university? As a senior, I have been thrown into the college and university whirpool of confusion. How does one get out of it? Ah, the solution is simple. It all depends on your major. Even if you don't have one as still need time to think about it there are college made for just that reason. It is an amazing process. Liberal arts colleges help you decide which path you want to take if you are still undecided. If you have a major such as art, English, architecture, culinary, and so on you can find the school that offer just what you are looking for. How? Through college fairs and online research. The Internet is an amazing source of communication, and you can find just about anything you are looking for there. Yes, this may not seem as much help but colleges exist for everyone. People with financial needs, specific major, and undecided individuals. It all is up to one person - you.

My Master Plan

How would one make the community a better place. Its impossible as it is. One need followers. I would encourage followers to help make a difference. Yes, it sounds like a dictatorship, but tis the only wya things could be done. This is why everyone is failing. They are hiring all the wrong people for endorsement. I shall spread tyhe word around. So much that the people will get frustrated, and forced. This is all part of the plan. A cleaner community must be manipulated. Kepp contact with those in power now. They keep control of money and they can give the people what they want. I know I will become corrupt along the way. I would got on a food splurge and come back just in time to fix the chaos. Yes, but it cannot be prevented. I must have that sundae. It is $1,000 but it is worth it. I'll pay the city back, but playing the role of a hero. As a hero, I'll get payed to endorse. Once I reached the $1,000 dollar mark I'll quit. I leave the job to a new official. My duty was done. Under me, the community was in a better condition, but not as well as it would be now. My apprenctice was one with a kind heart, a bearer of wisdom. He shall lead them to happiness. All I truly wanted was that sundae.

Prompt #35

A debate has fallen, a story was told, and school lunches are the topic. Parents argue that their children are beginning to adapt to eating unhealthy food. How could this have happened? Parents keep track of their children for most of the day. Most of the day! A parent is supposed to be the caretaker of the child 24/7. The only time when the parent does not watch their child is at … school. Yes, that is it. This is why a parents would complain about school lunches. The lunches do not live up to their names. Children are being served chips, cookies, fries, and all sort of junk on a constant basis. It is rare to see “low-fat” or “vegetarian” as school lunch options. As a school campus (that is held accountable for the child 8 hours of the day) school lunches should accommodate the eating habits of the child. A child’s behavior is already held accountable at school, so eating habits should be accommodated as well.

Schools should accommodate a child into healthy eating habits. Why? Health is an important factor for the child’s success in the future. A school is the nurturer of the child’s mind and body. Since preschool, children are accustomed to the fact that school lunches are a daily routine. If junk is included in this daily routine, the child would get accustomed to this flaw. Now if schools promoted healthy habits and snacks, the child is more likely to become accustomed in eating the right thing. In fact, schools that promote healthier habits to the children help the lifespan of the child increase drastically.

Parents have the right to know that their child is safe at school at all times. Then how come health is not a violation of the child’s safety? It taints the immune system of the child. It increases the child’s rate of developing diabetes or obesity as years progress. Is this not harming the child? Is harm not the opposite of safety? Ah, all interesting questions. By refusing to serve the child low-fat or vegetarian school lunches, the school is harming the child. In fact, as years develop children become aware of their appearance. By feeding unhealthy lunches, schools only increase the chances of a child developing a low self esteem, thus harming the child physically and mentally.

A school must realize a child’s health is an important factor of the child. If a child’s health is affected, the absence rate is going to increase The child’s grades, on the other hand, are more likely to decrease as a result of absences. Why is a child’s health affected by junk food? Junk food is exactly as the title is given to it - junk. There is no way around this fact. Junk is artificial, and not natural in comparison to vegetarian and low-fat alternatives. A school’s duty is to accommodates a child’s needs towards success in the future and lunch options are a major deciding factor of the child’s future health condition.

School lunches should be made to accommodate student’s with low-fat and vegetarian options. A child’s safety and knowledge are already held accountable by the school, so school lunches should be a priority as well. A child’s future is at risk, if schools fail to accommodate their health needs.

Prompt # 16

Our population is at its peak in recent years. This has led many skeptics wondering why this is so. Ah, little did they know the answer was among them. People. People are the reason we are in an over capacitated state. Why? Too many babies were produced during the earlier years. What does this do to the human population? It increases. We already have other living species. Our species is the only one that does not know when to stop reproducing. Do families have a large role in this problem. Yes. In fact, smaller families have a positive impact on our planet today in sustainability, efficiency, and productivity
What is sustainability? The answer is quite simple, as it pertains to the economic state we are in. Sustainability is the act of being able to maintain ecological balance, which is what we are trying to achieve as of now. How do large families pose a threat to sustainability? The answer is apparent. Larger families will need a larger share of natural resources, with many large families our resources will become scarce. Scarcity then leads to famine. On the other hand, smaller families use up less of our resources, thus leaving maintaining an ecological balance.
Efficiency. Ah, the term that has a ring to the ears. What is more efficient? Larger families provide more people, but everyday life has its limits. Can you imagine walking through crowded streets everywhere you turn? No. Why? There is a limit on humanity. The phrase “too much of a good thing” does apply itself in this case. If there are too many humans on this planet, efficiency will go down due to overproduction. In today’s society, the rare items are sought after, and the common items are looked down upon. If there’s too many humans, a similar process will occur.
The productivity of this planet is at stake. How is this so? Too many humans are being produced. So little jobs available. Creativity in the creation of new working fields of interest is decreasing. This is all alive an existent in today’s society. What can be done to stop this? The human population must adapt with smaller families. In all cases, this would prove to have an increase in productivity. How? Smaller families will create a balance or at least decrease the terrible economic state we are in.
Overall, smaller families prove to be more efficient in comparison to larger families. Smaller families create a balance in sustainability, efficiency, and productivity on this planet. Larger families harm the state our planet is in - depression.

A typicial day

In my life, I hardly get to see my face. I  only see through my eyes. Yes, many of us live like this. Only able to see through one's eyes. Now, on a typical day, I wake up look around and bundle up into the covers again. Ten more minutes of sleep does not harm me, it just adds energy. Strangely, my body know when ten minutes pass by, so I wake up. I turn to face the closet behind me and grab the nearest pants, shirt, sweater, etc. I get ready, but I feel cold. Yes, as I change I feel goosebumps on the surface of my skin. I loathe that feeling. It feels as though the cold wants to take over the warmth. The only battle that ends quick. I do not want the cold to take over. The clothes glide onto the surface of my skin as quickly as possible. Now I stumble into the bathroom to brush my teeth, use the restroom, and wash my face. After those tasks are completed, I brush my hair. It always is random, all depending on how much heat it had the previous night. Yes, the hair has a mind of its own, and it does not get split ends. After this, I usually put on eyeliner. Then I have this glitter thingy. I do not know what to call it, but only those that get close to my eyes see the shine. Not I yawn in front of the mirror. Yes, it is a common task. I am practically done, I just need to spray some perfume and that's it. Its been a habit since the days of my youth. Then, I race off to the closet to get two water bottles. Now I am off to school. The rest of my day varies, there is not typical day. I only have typical mornings.

Vegetable I dislike

I do not like radishes. I can eat them, but that does not mean I like them. I loathe the vegetable. It is spicy, yet watery. I is hard yet soft. It does not please my palette. It is not a pleasing flavor. Why? It leaves your tongue numb. Yes, not only does it not please my palette, it takes away its abilities. Yes, a dreaded vegetable indeed. I don't know how my parent could eat it just like that. I am amazed by the older generation.  How they can eat a variety of flavors! I wish I could adapt to it. In fact, I tried once. It did not work. I just hate the way the vegetable tastes as it hit my tongue. In fact, my tongue loathes the flavor so much that I can taste it now. I feel a numb tongue. This is not right! I was meant to be enemies with this vegetable from the ground.

Favorite Season

My favorite season is fall. This sounds so familiar, as though it were some sort of deja vu moment. Continuing... Of all season, autumn is abundant. It has acceptable weather. Rays of sunshine with a cold breeze are common. Contradictory weather is one of my favorite things about it. The food tastes better, as the human eats more. Why? Like bears, we too have our hibernation - food and sleep. These two are common in this weather. I truly admire it though. I love eating the food fall has to offer. An abundance of warm colors, warm flavors, and plenty of chocolate. I melt in the cold weather. All of it contradictory, and I love all of it. I may get sick, but that's natural. Yes! Fall is among us.

Brother and Sister arguements... their effects.

Everyone has faced and arguement with a sibling, wheter it be a brother or a sister. Now if you're an only child, then you heard of arguements amongst sibling (at least). That being said, yes it is difficult for a family to bond with constant bickering amongst siblings. A perfect example is a friend with a younger brother and a younger sister. Both the brothers loathe the sister. The eldest has even taken the title of "sister" away from her. She is dead to him. His brother is the only sibling he truly is fond of. He acts as though he does not care, when in reality he care tremendously. It's more of a love-hate relationship. How has this affectedhis family? He and his brother have a theory about their sister. She might end up hitting her mother or father because she shows a lack of respect. It's annoying to them. They are a twisted family. Honestly, they are but they love each other. It's a battle of stubbornness amongst sibling. The parents try their best to simmer the problem. They try, but will never succeed.

Getting a new state of the art computer

In order to make this investment, I must save up a lot of money. Let's just say I have a job. I made it as an architect, but I have a family to feed, bills to pay, and clothing to buy. What's the next step? I must take out a small amount of money every month, to reach the goal. It will be hard because I am not a patient person, and I will get tempted to spend the money of food. Now with will-power and determination, I'll reach the goal, and buy the computer Once I have the computer, I will think of food I could of bought. Yes,k I will have a love-hate relationship with the computer. I always do, even as of now.

Passing College Admissions Tests

The college admissions test is a challenge. How does one take on challenges? Preparation. Yes, one mus tbe prepared to take on a challenge such as this. Studying is the best way to prepare. Ah, this along with one improving their skills. Knowledge remains untouched unless the host uses it. So use it! It does not matter in what form, as long as you prepared for the test, you are good. People have different ways of learning and finding one's best learning method is the best thing to do. Experiment. Try a tutor. Television. Whatever it takes to pass that test!

Ending a relationship

Now this is truly ironic. I got through a long-tern one a few weeks ago. Was it? I am not sure how long ago it was, but this is easy. You can do it in person, but I did it over the phone. One cannot call it off unless they know that their partner is truly not the one. This will be apparent through a huge mistake. You then notice their flaws. You can cry and blow boogers, but the fact is that it has to end. If they do not hold the qualities you look in a husband then call it off. It's useless having many relationships with immature individuals, who will only serve as dead weight. The phone call is simple, you guys talk it out and decide on a meeting time to give stuff back to each other. Sure it won't be as simple I describe, but it will be over before you know it. The next few days, your friends will admit that they did not like him. Yes. Confessions will arise. It will be fine, friends will get you through it. In fact, you'll realize you're better without him. You have more "you" time. I must admit, being the pants in the relationship is hard. Sure, he was a guy. I, however, was the holder of the choices. Yeah a break up is simple, you just break up, the afterword is hard. One heals fast! Plus, one accomplishes more unattached.

How to make a new friend

A friend can be a classmate, a teacher, or an animal. Now making a friend is different depending on what type of friend one wants to make. I look towards bonds with a small number. Its easy, you just talk about interest, or go by similarities. Even asking about an ssignment can turn into a full blown conversation. Just go out there and find people with similar qualities, likes, dislikes. Its apparent by their gestures, the way they talk, and the way they dress. Laidback individuals can be spotted easily. Now if you get bored of individuals, try not to make a close bond. Have a small conversation, and let it drift with time. Its all up to you to find a "pengyou".

Favorite Game

I had one in the past, its name was Runescape. Yes it was an online virtual game. The characters used ot look like elted plastic. Th modern version is better. The member's world is the most advanced though. Better graphics, better powers, and better worlds. It is hard though. I was a noob. My friend, Alice, mocked my noobness and I don't blame her. I was a level 1. I managed to work my way up to level 54 due to my obsession. Yes, being a gamer is a difficult ordeal. I had problems. I began to sleep late. I woke up just to play. I bathed, but I went to the computer as soon as I was done. My family was not helping. They began to bring my meals to the computer. I ate by the screen. I realized I had problems when I began to dream about being part of the game. I had become a part of it! All the people I met, all the people that died. All the quests. All the food and easy money. It was an ideal world. Imagine! 100,000 made easily by fishing, trading, selling, crafting. I stopped though. I realized I was only human, and this was just a game. I was introduced to WYD through a male friend, but I did not last. My computer was not compatible wih the game. Yes gaming was a part of me that I cannot forget. Now, I am game-free. I manage my time and do work instead. Yes, freshman year was easy. The following years were different. This game was my favorite, now I go for Cooking Mama. It is addictive, but not as much as Runescape. I had experiences with online friends. One is a friend at school, the other were good people, except the noobs. Yes, there are ten year olds there. Its restricted from them, but they play anyway. All that can be said is that love should not be accepted by children at a young age.
Runescape Map (Nonmember's world)

Pollution

An other worldy visitor landed in my room. I was too scared to talk to it, but I had not choice. It was face to face with me. Strangely it looked like my puppy, Teddy. He could walk though.
"Awwwwwwww you're so cute!!!!!!!"

"What?!?! Cute! I am the commander of the spaceship armada. "

"Yeah.......why are you here?"

*clears throat* " We have come for one thing only, to ask a question"

"Which is........."

"AH, yes quite we shall get to that matter. Recently, we have noticed tha tthere is a heated debate in your world with a matter referred to as 'pollution'. What is that?"

"That's the reason you're here. -.-"

"Yes :3"

*sighs* "It is when ones planet becomes trashed or not cared for"

"Really?!?!? O.o''

"Yes... I am disappointed that I too take part in this, but as being part of the modernized humans I had no choice."

"I see... why don't you guys do something about it?"

"We're lazy... and some p[eople are trying but failing as well"

"HAHAHAHA!"
"What? You find this funny?"

"Yes, you humans are a contradicting species."

"I can not argue with you there"

We spent the remainder of the time talkin about the downsides of being human and outsider. It was a long convesation full of random thoughts. By the end, he returned to his planet with a gift.  A package of Oreos, he loved them. I had a stash in my room.

Life without computers

Life without computers would make me a different person. I would be unaware of the world as it is today. I would read more. I would be unaware of Super Junior, SHINee, DBSK, SNSD, BoA, alot of things. I would not know much about international food, unless I watch it on television. Ah, but eventually the television would connect me to all of these. The Korean stars on Star King, the food channel coverign international foods. The history channel. My only gateway to the world would be school and the television. Everyone else would be more unaware of what's out there. I would have tired hands from typing so much. Hmmm, life would be less efficient. NO coputer would require a typewritier being used for projects. It sounds terrible. It would be simpler ot have everything t hand in one device. I would loahte a world without a computer, as it has affected who I am today.

A good driver

In order to be a good driver, a person must be confident, aware, and catious. All precations of being a driver are given by adults on a constant basis, but not everyone drives well. I almost got ran over by individuals and I noticed they all had one thing in common - frustration. They saw driving as a task, and I was just another passerby. Driving is a responsibility, not a burden. In order to drive to and fro, one must be organized and aware of people and animals crossing. I loathe careless individuals. These same individuals then blame me for their faults! Yes, I hold resentment toward terrible drivers. But I am not at fault. These drivers failed to see the signs. In the manual it clearly says to stop at all stop sign, and to watch for civilians crossing at a school zone site. Careless humans! A good driver must be aware of these rules! Why else would they have a driving TEST. All of these must be accounted by drivers, as well as a sense of direction. If one is not good at direction, a GPS is necessay since it's easy to get lost out on the road. Overall, a good driver is responsible.

Super Junior......

In the life of my favorite performers would be a tour in the life of 15 Korean males. Its strange but each has their own personality and strength. All of them have been through hardship. Hangeng had a hard time performing in Korea due to his Chinese background. Donghae has lost his father, a caring individual. Ah, the car accident. A tragic event, where three were injured and one was scratched. Shin Dong was the only survivor with not many scars. Kyuhyun almost lost his life. His father who was disappointed in his singing career sacrificed part of his throat for his son. Yes his son had his voice damaged in the accident and he decided to help him continue his career. Such things only a father would sacrifice for their son, but he is truly grateful. All individuals who have been unhealthy or average at one point, now live healthy lifestyles. Some more so than others. As of now many are trying the role of actors, including Siwon, Kibum, Sungmin, Shin Dong, and Donghae. Musical stars include Yesung, Sungmin, and Kyuhyun. MCs and variety stars include Eunhyuk, Leeteuk, Shin Dong, Yesung, and Heechul. So many names! Oh and Kangin is in the army. In Korea it is mandatory that all males serve two years in the army, His time came at a time when he wanted to become a better person, one with better morals and the army was the only place where he could improve. This piece could have been longer than what it is now, but I decided to narrow down. Yes, all are individual who have been through a lot. Despite that, they have an optimistic perspective on life and that is why I admire them.

(impossible to add other pictures with them present)

I am... special & unique

Hmmm.... i am an individual who manages to strive forward. I found my flaws and have decided to work on them. The number one is impatience. It takes a person with a good heart to be patient. Time ticks, and its limited and as of now I know my goals. I am striving with an architecture course. It is the one glimpse of mine into the career of my choice. It is not easy, but I have met interesting people who want to study the same major. All different. Chinese is not as easy as people mock it to be. Its easier than Spanish and English, but adapting to it takes some time. I have a generous but secluded personality. I have trust issues, so i avoid speaking with individual who do not seem reliable. I am not good with names, my freshman knows this fact. A huggable person indeed but only to a few. Yes, I hold the mind of a child, yet I can play the role of an adult when necessary. Its great to laugh, as it lessens one's chances of getting sick.  Ah, food! I am a huge a fanatic of it. I only loathe the fact that my eyes can eat more than my stomach. I admire a Korean male group named Super Junior. All of them are outstanding individuals, who despite of facing struggles in life managed to move forward. They came back with a vengeance! Multi-talented singers with a variety of singing styles. Knowledgeable in many languages. Instrumentally gifted. Actors, MCs, Dancers! I look up to these individuals simply because they have come so far. I want to become a successful individual. One who does not forget about her past, and shall soon return with a comeback. Failure may come, or even be tempted to rise, but I shall move past it and move forward.

Pride in one's work

Ah, the essence of pride is considered a sin. Too much and you have an individual who thinks highly of themself. Too little and a human with low self esteem is created. Knowing this, one must have a balance in pride to become successful. One's work is part of them. It haunts one, but it does not always have to be that way. An individual must realize that a little bit of pride is not bad. In fact, one must become the critic of their own work. Is it perfect? Is it truly a reflection of my thoughts? Is it me? All part of life. A person must learn how to accept criticism and fix their flaws. Ah, yes even as of now, this piece is not consistent. Nothing is truly perfect. This does not second guess the fact that one's work says alot. It may not be apparent if the human does not grow. All memories of one's subtext and context are reflected in one's work. Minus as well give it your all, instead of slacking off.

Diversity

The matter is around us. Diversity, all around. No one is the same, but yet we are connected by ancestry. A lot of intermingling in the past has taken roots in today's society. So much diversity. Is it important. Yes! One's expose to people of different backgrounds, talents, likes, dislikes, and races. All these help shape a human. Experience, such a broad term, but the diversity of it is that not everyone shares the same life. Life is diverse! From sadness, to happiness, to anger, to suffering all of it diverse. It's in our blood. We all have a variety of roads ahead of us. All of us part of a diverse game.

Cooperation

Cooperation is when individuals get together to perform a task at a faster rate. Its importance is of great heights. It would take one person years to fulfill the task of many. Time is a limited source in today's world, but the work of many can outdo the work of the few. It's wonderful that buildings, roads, and large scale projects can be done in a matter of seconds with cooperation. People working as a whole, making a task easier. This is the meaning of cooperation.

Communication - In the last 20 years

Over the years, communication has become a much more efficient source. It is a much more common source. People around the world know distant relatives. Life has not been simpler! It used to take years for a letter to be sent, now it can be done in a matter of days. In fact, the Internet has become a big player in the mail source. One could send an electronic mail in a matter of seconds. it is truly amazing! Even as of now we are an experiment of such advances in communication. Technology looks much slimmer and more compatible to other devices. It is fast! Not to mention it is more attractive than it was in the past. Remember the bulky computers and telephones. All those are history. We now have more devices, that have more of a modern-artistic feel. All these devices have advanced trememdously in only a matter of years. Now we must wait and see what's next - teleportation.

Teachers and Teaching

Teachers need authority. With students the teachers must exert a wise-knowledgeable presence. Why? Its the only way the students will treat the teacher as an important being. AH, it sounds easy, but things are not as they seem. A teacher must also be a multi-tasker. One who can manage to take care of their personal life in addition to educating their students. It takes a lot to deal with children at school, but imagine taking care of your own. It takes strength and ambition to become a teacher. It takes patience. It takes years of practice. Even as your are teaching, you will be learning, the learning never stops. This is only the beginning.

Conveniences

Conveniences make everything easier. They transport us. They connect us. They are the reason we have such fast services today. Although they manages to make life more efficient, they are a tremendous distraction. In today's hectic society, one would want to walk home to a hot cup of cocoa, automatically programmed and ready with a side of cookies. it sounds wonderful. There are setbacks. With knowledge comes sacrifice. Knowledge is put into devices, but if that device fails to perform its function the human must begin to adapt to the change. Change, yes we are a changed society. Little take in the beauty of nature. The modern the better. Oh you can make your own food for that homemade style. Or... You can go to a local restaurant.  Or... Shop at a convenience store. And.. Heat your meal up. It wont be as great as the old - fashioned approach, but sure will take less time off your schedule. Ah, did I mention you can now loose weight with a magic pill. Yes! You just take one a day, and the pounds shed off! Sounds great, doesn't it! In reality it isn't. As a society with conveniences we have become one thing - lazy.

Fame and Fortune

Ah, the phrase commonly heard in today's world. Such a strange day when this is in the hands of the few. Why? These humans are talented, connected, and lucky. Its just that. Many everyday people have talent, but those with luck are those that get discovered. Some fame is earned through and inventive mind, with high entrepreneurial skills. Those with good money management survive. Fame is limited, but those people have found it and decided to keep it. Fame truly does change someone, no matter how humble the being is. It changes their lifestyle, the food they eat, the things they could afford. Ah, now everything comes so easily. Was it hard? Yes it was! Fame is not and easy task. People must work hard to receive recognition. All of it a game. However it is up to the holder of fame to choose whether to have good intentions.

Environmental Problem - Trash

We live in a word full of trash. It surrounds us on the streets. In the country. On mountains. In oceans. All of it trash. What can be done about this? Ah, the and answer is quite simple. As humans we can create facilities that can eliminate the trash. We can recycle it. Use it as building materials. Use it at home, at school, at work. Everywhere. There are many possibilities. We do not need landfills, they are overflowing. As humans, we can think of new ways to use the trash. We already have created things that help destroy the environment, so why not help it. Trash must be destroyed and reused, this would lead to the end of most of our problems.

Prompt #20

Carpooling, recycling, and planting trees are all activities that are good for the environment. Write an essay convincing readers to actively participate in one of these activities.

Today our environment is at a terrible state. From unexpected weather patterns to the pollution our resources are making, we are surrounded by chaos. Why is our environment so vicious towards us? The answer is simple, we have not treated it with care. This is why our environment is fighting back with vicious storms and natural disasters. How can we change this? As humans, our duty is to treat the planet with care - since this is our only chance of survival- which is why carpooling, recycling, and planting trees all are great examples of things that can be done in order to improve the shape of our environment. Carpooling is equally beneficial, however, it is the entrée since it can be done with less effort. Consider carpooling the simplest solution.

What is carpooling? An efficient means of transportation, where the minimum of two people go to the same place, in the same car. What does this mean? Instead of individuals taking a number of cars to work or school, they can all fit in one single car and go to the same place together. How is this a better alternative? The individuals all are friends, co - workers, and family which means that these individuals have each other to talk through the ride to their destination. This proves to be a better alternative to each individual driving alone from place to place. Let’s face it, driving alone tends to get dull at times. As an added bonus, those who carpool waste less gasoline, thus helping the environment.

How can carpooling benefit me? Ah, the dreaded question that many individuals have in mind as they lack the generous aspect. The answer for these individuals is the fact that carpooling helps the individuals save gas money. How? By carpooling with many individuals in one car less gasoline is wasted in comparison to each individual driving their own cars. This does not mean that the one driving has to waste their money on the gasoline, since everyone can take turns driving their cars. This rotational carpool system makes it easier for individuals to save money, not to mention that they will be helping the environment in return.

Is carpooling truly beneficial? To answer this question one must think of the situation logically. Does riding in a car with other individuals help reduce carbon emissions from harming our environment? Yes, in fact it reduces the amount of pollutants in the air we breathe. How? The numbers of cars driving our on the streets reduces, since individuals are sharing transportation with those they know. This simple system helps out in the long run because cars no longer pose a threat to the environment. Overall, carpooling is beneficial to the individual and the environment, so why not give it a run.
In conclusion, carpooling is truly beneficial to the environment. From the individual saving money to the number of carbon emissions getting released into the air, carpooling is a cycle of benefits. If carpooling is applied to everyday life today, then it would reduce the number of pollutants present in the air. By carpooling, the individual helps the environment in the long run, thus establishing safety for generations to come.

Promoting Good Habits (warning: the letters may be small)

As an individual with a full schedule on her plate, I have some "secrets" that keep me from falling into the deep gaping hole that is stress. For one thing, I am not only a high school student with a full schedule. In addition to this role, I have taken the challenge of two El Camino classes: Chinese 1 and Architecture 100. Quite a full plate as of now, but not full enough considering the fact that I am a senior and as one I have to deal face the ACT, the SAT, university applications, and the dreaded personal statements. How does an individual such as myself manage to get through life? Ah, the answer is quite simple and it includes: sleep, time management, and exercise.
Sleep is an important source for energy. Think of it as the charger to a cell phone. Without the battery, the cell phone dies. It is quite true, as sleep deprivation can eventually lead the death of it victim. How do I know? I have experienced it once. It happened to me during my 11th grade year. Most of my experience through my sleep deprivation is a blur, but I remember that my heart began to ache and my mind began to play tricks on me. Focusing in class was difficult, pay attention was rare for me, and the simple task of walking became a new work out. After going through this phase I began to appreciate sleep and it benefits. It is an "automatic" gift, but a necessary thing for a healthy human.
This year I have no time to fool around with electronic gadgets or devices. This sacrifice is beneficial since it goes towards my expansion of knowledge. In fact, the last time I saw television or played games on the Internet was two weekends ago, when I decided to indulge into the electronics. The reason why I decided to stop wasting my time on such useless items is simply because I can do something better in my time. For example, during a three-hour television session I could have finished assignments for all my classes. Productivity is beneficial to the individual! If you think about it, television and the Internet are there forever. Time, on the other hand, is precious and scarce. So why not use it to do something better with your life.
Of course, no schedule is considered "healthy" unless exercise is added into the picture. Why is exercise considered healthy? A health professional may give a complex answer to this basic question, but I, as a student, know that exercise helps alleviate my stress levels. Many individuals today now live hectic lives, since getting the work done "faster" and more "efficient" is demanded in our everyday lives. Not to mention, the fact that most individuals today get much heavier work tasks that require complex methods to solving them. Ah life, the everyday zoo. The only solution I find to my "zoo" is exercise. It does not have to be vigorous; in fact my routine is only 10 minutes that include jumping jacks, reverse arm lifts, lunge jumps, and the human bridge lift. In this 10-minute session I alleviate all the week’s stress, and sweat all the toxins that would have weakened my immune system.
Overall, there are many factors that make a healthy individual. That being said, the ones I consider the most important are a good night’s rest, a wise management of time, and a weekly exercise routine. All these incorporated into my life have managed to make a happy

Prompt # 8

Research shows that the average American watches as much as six hours of television each day. Do you think this is too much? Write an essay convincing readers to spend less time in front of the TV.

Television is a powerful tool of today’s society. Though convenient, it too has its setbacks. Television, a rich source of collecting data efficiently, manages to decrease the intelligence of the people exposed to it. If one compares the ambitions those had in the past, they have decreased tremendously. Ambitions of becoming a doctors or a teacher have decreased to becoming famous or a billionaire. How is this possible? Through the influence of television. It lurks in every household affecting three main factors: physical being, intelligence, and how the mind processes memory. All factors are affected negatively, which is why the average American should do something more productive with their time than watching six hours of television per day.

Why is one’s physical being considered a factor? The answer is quite simple due to the efficiency of television broadcasting stations. The information is transmitted rapidly through the advance of today’s technology, thus exposing the common people to these images. What lies in these images is truly affecting the minds of many people. How? Children who see someone "better" or more "perfect" than them on television feel the need to become perfect. Children who spend too much time watching television tend to gain weight by watching their favorite shows instead of playing and spending time with friends. How do these effects affect children in the long run? For one thing, more children now are concerned about their looks and looking more like adults. This is why children now lack the creativity skills they once had in the past.

With technology as a shortcut for many of the things we do today there is no questioning that it would soon affect the intelligence rate. Although most of the technology is made to be efficient, television is a distraction. It is not alone. Along with television, we now have cell phones, mp3’s, DVD’S, video games, and etc. What is the purpose of these gadgets, to distract the individual from reality? Even though it is an enjoyable experience to be whisked away into this world of fantasy, in reality the individual just wasted precious time, when they could have been doing something productive. While the individual is watching their shows, they get exposed to inappropriate language and behavior. All this exposure only reduces intelligence, which could have been put into greater use.

How does this affect the mind? For one thing, its apparent that many students today lack the ability of memorization. Adults have a better way of visualizing past memories so vividly. As a teenager, it is truly amazing when an adults tells stories of their past because so many details are used with in that small conversation. On the other hand, many classmates lack a sprinkle of imagination and creativity. Why? Ah, because they lack memorization skills. Ones memory is a wonderful thing, where all the items that one has learnt throughout the years get put to good use. With television only as a learner’s distraction, there is no doubt that this causes short attention span in many of the children today. In fact, other countries there are regulations that prohibit overexposure to television. What do these regulations succeed in? Making stronger and smarter individuals for the future.

Overall, it is easy to day that television is a tool that distracts many American citizens today. Long-term effects include negative thought or actions towards one’s physical being, intelligence, and memory. That being said, television is a negative component of today’s society, thus meaning that Americans should watch less of it. By doing so, civilians increase their ambitions and goals, rather than watching the distracting "light box" six hours a day.

Letter to the Principal (Litter Problem)

In order to solve your school’s recent litter problem, your principal asked students to take better care of the campus, but the litter problem continued. Your principal’s reaction is to cancel all the extracurricular activities until the problem is resolved. Do you agree or disagree with his/her reaction? Use specific reasons and examples to support your position.

Dear Ms. Brown,

The new policy enforced on the school is reasonable. The students were given a request and failed to follow the rules, which is why the only way to improve the school’s appearance is through the cancellation of the extracurricular activities. Students need to realize that as students one of the top expectations is to treat both the faculty and the campus with respect. A campus must be kept clean and proper as if it were the student’s second home. In fact, in this school the phrase "students of character" is emphasized alot, and as such we should abide by the rules until the situation is improved.

Students should treat their campus with more respect and not pinpoint their faults upon others. In fact, many students try to blame the littering problem on the freshmen, since they are the newcomers to the school. This claim on the freshmen is false, as every grade level contributes to littering in this school, not just the freshmen. As a student, I have witnessed these events first hand. I’ve seen it all; from the random lunch "fights" to a student’s laziness on throwing away their tray. All of these events make it clear that a student’s responsibility is to treat their campus with respect.

It is disgusting to see trash lying around when it should be in its place, the trashcan. Now that there are more students in our school, we should have enough hands that clean after themselves. Instead, everything is a wreck. There are lunch trays on the tables, wrappers on the floor, and food that makes its mark on the floor. Why? Students do not clean after themselves. In fact, as a student I decided to pick after some students – on rare occasions – to lessen my disgust on the campus. If students put their hands to good use, the campus would be a cleaner environment.

A littered environment leads to pest infestations. It has been proven that once students are allowed to eat in classrooms rats, flies, ants and roaches have become more common. Why? These students fail to clean up after themselves. It is one thing to leave a mess, but it is up to the individual to clean it up. In fact, a janitor cleaning up after the student is not enough. If one compares the student to janitor ratio, the janitor is clearly outnumbered. Not to mention, the hard spills to clean up after. These spills students leave behind leave a stick substance that the pests feed upon. It is because of these students that the pest plague has fallen upon us. How do we fix this problem? Enforce one’s authority over the students to make them do the right thing.

Overall, a trashed campus is unappealing, not sanitary, and a terrible learning environment. The only solution for this problem is by punishing the students for the mess they have made. Once the students learn how to respect their campus, they deserve the right to extracurricular activities. Until then, one must wait till the students realize that the campus must be clean to improve their learning environment.

Sincerely,
Jenny Ceballos
